Before joining Mental Health America as their Head Personal Coach, she worked as the Peer Support Specialist for the Intensive Community Treatment Team serving the Homeless of South Fairfax County for 18 months. Previously, she worked as the Executive Assistant and Certified Peer Support Specialist for The Laurie Mitchell Empowerment and Career Center. The Peer Support Group that she ran for over 3 years continues today. Kirsten has Associates in Arts Degree in Liberal Arts. Kirsten has had extensive training as a Certified Peer Support Specialist, Certified WRAP Facilitator and a NAMI In Our Own Voice Speaker. She is also the is the author of Bondage of Self. Her strange, often harrowing true life story of the first 6 years of her Recovery has prompted interviews by 20/20, TLC, as well as Rolling Stone and Good Housekeeping magazines.
